FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
BOSTON, MA — Today, Massachusetts and Rhode Island leaders announced the largest offshore wind procurement in the region’s history, committing to power New England homes and businesses with nearly 3,000 MW from three new projects.
“I want to applaud the longstanding regional leadership and strong public support that have brought us to this moment of growing momentum for offshore wind in America,” said Hillary Bright, Executive Director of Turn Forward. “Massachusetts and Rhode Island’s partnership in the region’s largest procurement of offshore wind energy highlights the power of collaboration in bringing this transformative resource online. Today’s announcement builds on the momentum, including this week’s approval of the nation’s tenth offshore wind project. These commitments are propelling the industry forward, delivering thousands of good-paying jobs and clean, reliable energy to American families.”
The multistate procurement for offshore wind is the first of its kind, allowing developers to sell wind power to both states and providing up to 1.5 million homes with power from renewable energy.
