FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Washington, D.C. — Today, the Department of the Interior approved the U.S.’s tenth commercial-scale offshore wind project. US Wind’s Maryland Offshore Wind Project, located off the coast of Maryland and Delaware, will provide up to 2,200 megawatts of clean, reliable energy — enough to power up to 770,000 homes — and create an estimated 2,680 jobs annually over seven years.

“The Biden-Harris administration’s historic approval of the nation’s tenth offshore wind project reflects the momentum behind offshore wind in the United States this summer. The expanding offshore wind industry is spurring economic investment and job creation and bringing the reliability and sustainability benefits of clean energy to Americans from coast to coast,” said Hillary Bright, Executive Director of Turn Forward. “This is just one of many projects under development that is reshaping the future of American energy. Offshore wind projects are not only generating clean, reliable power but are also transforming our communities, creating thousands of family-sustaining jobs, generating economic growth, and strengthening our energy security. Turn Forward commends leaders at all levels for their bold vision and commitment to unlocking offshore wind’s transformative potential.”

With today’s announcement, the Biden-Harris administration has approved more than 15 gigawatts of offshore wind projects.
