Washington, D.C. — A new poll conducted across 13 coastal states for Turn Forward by GOP polling firm Tarrance Group shows that electricity prices are top of mind for voters and support for offshore wind broadly continues to climb. In addition, Republican support for offshore wind has grown by 30% since January 2025. Fielding for this latest survey coincided with the beginning of U.S military action in Iran, a time of heightened public concern over issues of energy security and energy price volatility.
As global energy markets were shaken by the unfolding conflict, 70% of voters reported being extremely or very concerned about electricity prices, a concern shared across party lines. Respondents also demonstrated growing anxiety about electric reliability in their states, with 62% anticipating a greater risk of power shortages in the next 10 years. Against that backdrop, across party and state lines, voters expressed support for more offshore wind construction off their own states: support across all 13 states reached 74%, up from 65% in January 2025, with 84% favoring more renewable energy in their state’s energy mix.
“This is the third round of polling we’ve undertaken with Republican firm Tarrance Group since January 2025, and voter support for offshore wind has steadily grown across party lines despite the intense politicization of energy policy today,” said Turn Forward Executive Director Hillary Bright. “Policymakers need to listen to Americans’ real worries about electricity prices and grid reliability, and voters are clearly saying that offshore wind is part of the solution.”
Voters were polled across 13 coastal states reflecting a diverse political and geographic landscape, including California, Connecticut, Delaware, Louisiana, Maine, Maryland, Massachusetts, New Jersey, New York, North Carolina, Oregon, Texas and Virginia.
Key takeaways from the poll include:
- Electricity prices are the dominant issue of the moment: Voters recognize offshore wind as a way to deliver affordable energy, with 47% citing lower energy prices as one of offshore wind’s biggest benefits. They also aren’t buying attacks on offshore wind, with 64% rejecting the claim that offshore wind would drive up energy prices.
- Republican support for offshore wind has grown significantly: More Republican voters support constructing offshore wind and auctioning new leases than a year ago and are now more likely (45%) than less likely (29%) to vote for a pro-wind candidate. That’s a 31-point swing in 14 months.
- Achieving reliability and energy independence are broadly shared goals: Only 35% of respondents are confident their state will have enough electricity to meet demand over the next 10 years. 56% of voters include offshore wind in the mix of resources their state needs to meet future electricity demands, alongside other energy sources.
- Voters want consistent federal energy policy: Voters across party lines believe the government should follow through on energy commitments it has already made, with 68% saying it is very or extremely important for the federal government to honor projects that were previously permitted or under development. This support includes 56% of Republicans surveyed.
Voters clearly see offshore wind as an answer to their concerns and believe it should be a key part of today’s increasingly urgent national conversation about America’s ability to address its own energy needs.
