Washington, DC — Today, New York Governor Kathy Hochul announced the largest-ever state solicitation in offshore wind with three new offshore wind projects that total 4,032 megawatts of clean energy and two supply chain facilities for turbines and blades. Turn Forward celebrates this monumental step toward achieving New York’s clean energy goals and advancing a strong national offshore wind industry.

“With the largest state offshore wind investment in U.S. history, New York remains a clear offshore wind leader that’s harnessing the power of this domestic, secure, clean energy for the benefit of its communities, workers, and the environment,” said Turn Forward Executive Director Stephanie McClellan. “Thanks to Governor Kathy Hochul, developers, and state and local leaders, these new investments will create thousands of good-paying union jobs in New York, spur billions in projected spending, improve grid reliability, and grow the domestic supply chain — all at costs comparable to projects awarded back in 2019. We’re excited by how bold and competitive this next wave of New York project awards are.”

This historic investment in offshore wind energy signifies a commitment to ensuring that everyone will benefit from the state’s clean energy transition. The three new offshore wind projects will create over 4,200 family-sustaining jobs, and with a $100 million investment in workforce development training, today’s announcement signals long-term job opportunities for New York workers and their families. New York will commit $300 million in state funding to support establishing two critical supply chain facilities — one for turbine assembly and another for nacelle manufacturing. By 2035, those facilities, and their projected 1,700 new jobs, will be able to supply almost one-third of the regional demand for these offshore wind components.

Today’s offshore wind announcement, coupled with New York’s 10-point renewable energy action plan, demonstrates New York’s leadership in pioneering cost-competitive and economically viable solutions for the clean energy transition. These newest New York offshore wind projects and the expeditious opportunity for rebidding of existing projects will be critical to ensuring the grid is reliable and power is available to New Yorkers when and where they need it.
