Hillary Bright, Executive Director of offshore wind advocacy group Turn Forward, made the following statement regarding Doug Burgum’s successful Senate confirmation:

“We congratulate Doug Burgum on securing Senate confirmation to become the next Secretary of the Interior. Serving both in this capacity and as head of the new ‘National Energy Dominance Council,’ Sec. Burgum will oversee development of U.S. resources on public lands and waters and help ensure we produce enough electricity to support our nation’s rapidly growing digital economy.

As the longtime Governor of North Dakota, a state that produces abundant wind power, the incoming Secretary is well-positioned to ensure that offshore wind plays a critical role in advancing U.S. energy dominance. With each new offshore wind project able to electrify hundreds of thousands of U.S. homes, this utility-scale electricity source will help achieve a balanced and thriving U.S. energy portfolio.

An authentic ‘all-of-the-above’ approach to generating power and strengthening our energy security requires continued development of offshore wind resources. We hope Sec. Burgum sticks to his confirmation hearing statement that offshore wind projects that ‘make sense’ will advance. Our nation’s ability to meet our coming energy challenges may depend on it.”
