Washington, D.C. — Turn Forward Executive Director Hillary Bright issued the following statement regarding the Department of Transportation’s decision to terminate or withdraw $679 million in funding for 12 port redevelopment projects:
“Modern ports are essential for offshore wind to deliver reliable, American-made power to millions of homes while also strengthening shipbuilding, defense, and trade. Rolling back these investments puts America’s economic aspirations, grid reliability, and energy dominance firmly out of reach. The President hopes to make America the global leader in AI and other digital innovations, which consume tremendous amounts of power. Yet the offshore wind projects affected by these cuts can power more than 2.5 million homes at a time when the U.S. economy faces a gap in new power supplies.
Our government should be bringing as many power projects online as possible, not creating tenuous excuses to undercut them. These actions will raise costs for American families and send investors an unmistakable signal that no infrastructure project, however large or essential, is safe from politics in the United States.”
