Washington, D.C. — The final turbine of 65 has been installed at the Revolution Wind offshore wind farm in Rhode Island Sound, according to the Providence Journal. The 704MW Orsted project, a partnership with Skyborn Renewables, will supply power to Rhode Island and Connecticut. Revolution Wind is expected to power over 350,000 homes and become fully operational later this year.
Hillary Bright, Executive Director of Turn Forward, released the following statement on the project’s completion.
“The completion of Revolution Wind is an important milestone for Rhode Island, Connecticut and the broader New England region. As electricity demand continues to grow, the region needs more generation that can strengthen reliability, diversify the power supply and provide greater certainty for consumers.
“Revolution Wind will deliver 704 megawatts of new electricity to the New England grid, with 400 megawatts serving Rhode Island and 304 megawatts serving Connecticut. The project demonstrates what is possible when states, utilities, workers and the private sector work together to deliver new energy infrastructure.
For Rhode Island and Connecticut, this marks an important new source of domestic energy generation at a time when states are striving to meet rising demand while maintaining a reliable and affordable power. Revolution Wind will be an important part of that effort and a meaningful addition to the region’s energy portfolio.”
